A strange way to calm down a disorganised mind

I feel like such an eccentric human being for writing this. But I really don’t care if you all judge me for this post. In fact, I know you’ll all thank me for it. I know after reading this, you’ll research it for a few minutes after. And after researching it for a few minutes, you’ll spend hours watching videos on it, and reading upon it, ‘cause that’s exactly what I did. And  now, I am OBSESSED. This is why I love the internet, ‘cause you can find such weird yet intriguing stuff on here, and it’s totes normal.

Right, I stumbled across this thing called ‘ASMR’, after reading an article in The Guardian. ASMR is an‘autonomous sensory meridian response’– which is an enjoyable tingling triggered by visual or auditory stimuli, from whispering to the tapping of fingernails. It is literally the weirdest thing ever. I don't know how it works, but it does. I'm literally infatuated. I've watched a bout 5 videos so far. Each one has completely de-stressed me, and made me forget all my aches and pains, as well as my daily stresses.

Although I've previously blogged about meditation, and it did work for me occasionally, it never fully had my attention. So, whilst listening to all them mindfulness tapes or podcasts, I could still hear all my worries in the back of my mind (which I guess isn't what you want when you're meditating eh?). But this, this is completley different. My whole focus is on the video, and my whole body tingles. MY WHOLE BODY. Sorry about the caps. I just can't even begin to describe. You need to check it out. It's almost like a sense of relief, or like a release. Like when you take your make-up off after a long day. Or when you put your hands under warm water after being in -3 degree weather.

You can get podcasts of them, or videos. I haven't tried the podcasts yet, but I'm pretty sure they'll have the same effect as the videos. There's one video that particularly amazed me. And I think I've watched it about 10 times. Ah fuck it - here's the link, so you really get what I'm getting at. Like, how does she make you feel like she's checking your scalp? And I swearrrrr I could feel the thermometer under my tongue. Baffled. Absolutely baffled. I feel lke this is definitely going to be my new meditation - and I'm going to show everyone I know.

  1. I need to give this a go, especially if you're saying it worked for you.

I've been really into things like mindfullness and CBT lately, but I've only found things like breathing exercises. It's nice to come across different ways to relieve stress.

  4. This is really interesting, but I've had sensations of this when watching someone do something like my nails or brush my hair and I think the feeling is similiar to this instance. Thanks so much for sharing this! xx, adaatude.com

  5. Okay so I just tried the first 5 minutes of the video and it didn't work for me! Maybe I'm just trying too hard!! Her makeup was amazing though.
